A shooter opened fire, injuring Trump's right ear, while the former US President was addressing a rally
Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined world leaders in condemning the attack on former US President Donald Trump who narrowly escaped an assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday (July 13, 2024, US Time).
 
Expressing deep concern at the attack on his “friend”, Prime Minister Modi said violence has no place in politics and democracies.

"Deeply concerned by the attack on my friend, former President Donald Trump. Strongly condemn the incident. Violence has no place in politics and democracies. Wish him speedy recovery.
 
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased, those injured and the American people. @realDonaldTrump," he posted on social media platform X, formerly Twitter. 
 
A shooter opened fire, injuring Trump's right ear, while the former US President and presumptive Republican nominee for the upcoming Presidential polls was addressing a rally. According to reports, one spectator was killed and another two were injured. The alleged gunman was shot dead by Secret Service agents.

Trump received injuries to his right ear. Videos showed him pumping his fist in the air as he was surrounded by Secret Service agents and hurried off the stage.
 
Condemning the incident, US President Joe Biden said there was no place for this kind of violence in America. 
 
"I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania. I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information.

Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it," he said on X.
 
Former US President Barack Obama also commented on the alarming development. “There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy. Although we don’t yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn’t seriously hurt, and use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics,” said President Obama.
 
The attack has been condemned by leaders from across the world.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the incident. In a post on X, he said, “I am appalled by the shocking scenes at President Trump's rally and we send him and his family our best wishes. Political violence in any form has no place in our societies and my thoughts are with all the victims of this attack".
 
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was “shocked by the apparent attack on President Trump. We pray for his safety and early recovery”.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said, "We must stand firm against any form of violence that challenges democracy. I pray for former President Trump’s speedy recovery".
 
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said there was no place for violence in the democratic process. "The incident at former President Trump’s campaign event in Pennsylvania today is concerning and confronting. There is no place for violence in the democratic process. I am relieved to hear reports that former President Trump is now safe.
 
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said she was following with apprehension updates from Pennsylvania and wished Trump a speedy recovery.
